According to his spokesperson, artist John Paul Misquez, better known as “JP Cali Smoov,” was with friends at a club in Waikiki Monday night when he got into a misunderstanding with a few men over a girl. When he tried to leave in an Uber, the men reportedly grabbed him from the vehicle and assaulted him, allegedly kicking him in the face repeatedly.
He’s now at Queens Medical Center with a broken jaw.
JP was in Hawaii to talk to kids at the Hawaii Youth Correctional Facility and Olomana School about rising out of tough situations and committing your life to something like music.
His whole week was booked before the alleged assault.
“He just feels terrible, right?” said his friend Ashley Nakanishi. She helped coordinate his visits with the kids.
“He had it scheduled the whole week to be with them,” she said. “Having come from a situation like that he knows how important it is to them. He feels terrible so it’s been sad.”
JP’s spokesperson said they filed a police report. KITV4 reached out to Honolulu Police for more information, but we haven’t heard back yet.
